So….this happened.

Those bones definitely aren’t where they’re supposed to be. Last week, Brad had a bad fall and shattered his fibula, broke his tibia, and fractured a couple bones in his left foot. Considering his fall, he is really lucky it wasn’t much worse, but it’s been a rough couple of days for us both. I had no idea that a break like this could involve so much. He’s in an external fixator until his swelling goes down enough for his next surgery to install plates/pins to stabilize his breaks, and is just uncomfortable, frustrated, and in a lot of pain. I have not been cooking – at all, and I’m really starting to miss it – but we’ve been having some great food thanks to my parents and my sister, who have brought us dinners from Casa BellaPoshAV, What the Fork, and Osaka. And, of course, Zummo’s, where I’ve gone for takeout lunch and coffees every single day. Brad and I have been really lucky to have amazing support from our friends and families during this – just want to say thank you, to all of you.

B, extremely happy to be going home from the hospital.

Brad and I just got back from a week in Hilton Head with my mom and dad, and we had a blast. My parents drove down, and B and I flew to meet them, so we had dinner the first night at The Olde Pink House in Savannah, Georgia. I am obsessed with the architecture in Savannah – it’s just such a cool, beautiful little city.

I forgot about Southern Cooking, though.  At dinner I ordered what I thought was a simple southern fish dinner.  This is what they brought out:

omg.  I had two bites and then looked at Brad all, “I’m sorry. I just can’t.”  Luckily, he is more adventurous than I am, and so we swapped dinners. His duck crepes were delicious!

We had a great time in Hilton Head. Lots of golfing, bike rides, late dinners and cocktails on the patio. It was gorgeous weather the entire time, and I got to spend some serious QT with three of my most favorite people in the world.  How do you do better than that??
My parents, who are the cutest. Don’t let my mom’s diminutive size fool you. Apparently she’s a ringer (and a  serious trash-talker, at that) when it comes to the game cornhole, who knew!

No trip would be complete for BAF without some lox.

I generally think Valentine’s Day is totally overdone, but I’ve had two that were really terrific. One was when I was a little girl, and it was just me and my mom at the house – I’m not sure where my dad and Colly were. There was a huge snowstorm, and my mom and I bundled up and walked over to Januzzi’s, because I’d heard on the radio that they were making heart shaped pizzas for Valentine’s Day. We got our pizza and our rose and I had a nice snowy Valentine’s Day with my mom. So this year, I was telling her that story about a week before Valentine’s Day, and she tracked down a heart shaped pizza for me. Sweetest. Mom. Ever.
